Here’s my story
As a Peace Corps Volunteer in West Africa, I saw that women were the backbones of the local community yet were often culturally undervalued. Watching women give birth in the local maternity building, which was essentially a tiled room without electricity or running water, I was in awe of the strength of these women and the capability of the human body.
In this community, I partnered with nurses at the local clinic to support mothers with infant care and breastfeeding. My hope was to help them feel proud of their ability to raise healthy, thriving children. In those moments, I discovered how much I loved helping people see their own power.
I received my Master of Public Health in 2017, focusing on maternal and child nutrition. That year, I also took my first birth doula training class and instantly knew this was the role for me.
I’ve worked with HIV-positive clients in NYC, refugee mothers in Atlanta, and health administrators in the DR Congo. Across every setting, I am inspired by the strength of women and birthing people, and the impact of compassionate support.
